about

It's been a long time between drinks for local underground perennials, the False Idols. Beloved by fans and relatively unknown beyond the 5000s, the band have developed a reputation for explosive live performances and thoughtfully assembled recordings over a fifteen-year career.

'Never Gonna See Her Again' is the first single from their upcoming album, 'Colour The Light:' Boozy, laconic, peppered with rich analogue synthesizers and immaculate vintage guitar tone, the song toys with heartache and loneliness - familiar themes for a band that cut their teeth playing country music - and places it in the broad expanse of Adelaide's sprawling semi-rural suburbia.

It's the first new release from the group since 2016's True Believers which took the listener on a rollercoaster ride through '70's and '80s Australian rock and roll and while the new music preserves an obvious connection with warm, valve-infused crackle, there's a contemporary urgency which places it firmly in the twenty-first century.

lyrics

I’m not trying to break you down
We ain’t tryin’ - we ain’t tryin’ at all
And it’s a fine, fine line - to try and hold it all together
By the time I read your message, you’ll be gone

Told me that you needed a sign
I bet you didn’t need to wait too long
I made the sign of the skull I made the sign of the rose
You’re by the side of the road and I’m just trying to see
And you’re just trying to burn it all down again

City ain’t as far as it seemed
Or maybe we’re a little bit older now
Pretty as a picture wonder if she’s gonna know your name
Wonder if she’s gonna know you didn’t want her before

And baby you could hold my hand
I’ll try to make it better
But we broke that line - better off forgetting it
And one last time
You’re never gonna hold her again

And maybe I could burn like that
Loving you forever
But I can’t turn back
Keeping it together
But I can’t do that
Never gonna hold her again

And baby it’s a trick of the light
And maybe it’s a matter of time
You think you’ll walk right up knocking on the door
And she’ll look right up - then you’ll know for sure
Oh but baby hope don’t work like that it don’t work at all

Told me you could work it out
Told me you were working again
Ask me if I think it’s right - go on ask me like you never did
Don’t even know her name

And baby you could hold my hand
I’ll try to make it better
But we broke that line - better off forgetting it
And one last time
You’re never gonna hold her again

And maybe I could burn like that
Loving you forever
But I can’t turn back
Keeping it together
But I can’t do that
Never gonna hold her again

Don’t even know her name
Don’t even know her name
